Jhaomen Area, located in the northern area of Sinpu Township, Hsinchu County, consists of fluctuating hilly terrain. It is a typical Hakka village where most inhabitants belong to Hakka race. Their ancestors lived together along the watershed in the hollow of the hill, which was called “Lake Den” and the area became distinctive with the tribal features. This village was built using large amounts of Lageratroemia subcostata and arrow bamboos, and has got the nickname “Jioucyong Lake” or “Jianjhuwo”. Visitors to this place can experience the rich Hakka atmosphere.
The Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, COA, has assisted this in soil conservation, improving agricultural facilitites and thus formed the basis of both conservation and usage of today. In 2001, Jhaomen village was nominated as the model area of “the project of the new vision for villages”. This originally unenlightened village has been transformed into a novel style and is now reputed for its splendid countryside.
Jhaomen area has been well known for the good quality of various fruits. In recent years, many villages combined local ecology, human life, and Hakka culture and have successfully transformed into centers of knowledge and leisure. This has greatly helped the local tourist development.

Soil and Water Conservation Bureau has successfully designed a serene and beautiful environment in Jhaomen Area. The footpaths constructed guide the tourists to shuttle back and forth between luxuriant trials and orchards. In this region, agricultural ponds can be seen everywhere and these can be used to irrigate crops and breed fishes. The middle-section of the river close to Jioucyong Lake is equipped with water district and hence adults and children can play in the water and use it for recreational activities. Moreover, Soil and Water Conservation Bureau redesigned nine natural and ecological footpaths where tourists can get fresh air.
In addition, there are lots of distinctive farms in Jhaomen Area. One of the farms located in the Jioufu footpath entrance called “Golden Valley Farm” conducts coordinated village transformation plan. Based on the plan, areas have been divided into ecological outdoor learning areas , garden cafe, Artistic teaching areas, and Hakka food courts. Tourists can derive pleasure from countryside activities, such as making Hakka toys, roasting Hakka noodles on the bamboo system furniture, or sitting on the vast lawns watching ducks in the pond. |
